Here It Comes!

"Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth. "- Buddha

What a difference a day makes.

Yesterday I looked outside and saw this strangely beautiful sight, the sun shrouded behind layers and layers of grey chiffon sky. Mind you, this was at the height of the day...1:00 o'clock p.m.,CST, to be exact. How often can we stare directly at the sun without squinting our eyes?

This morning, busy with caring for two little ones taking sick days from school, I received three messages in a row from friends who instinctively know when and how I need cheering up.

Donnagail sent music videos my way, John Denver, one of my absolute favorite singer/song writer/guitarists, who played the lovely instrumental, "Season Suite Late Winter Early Spring" and then sang the sweet and cheerful "Season Suite Winter"...just for me, it seemed. Thanks, Donnagail. You know me so well.

Soon after, Jude posted a quite hilarious spoof on The Black Swan. I mean, I loved that movie, but this is brilliant. She knew I would appreciate it.

Finally, my friend Terri, a videographer and editor for KSDK News here in St. Louis, posted this photo, taken from inside her house early this morning:

What was causing that bright glare?

Well, if this doesn't improve my day, nothing will. Word around town today says we may see highs in the upper twenties, with even warmer weather this weekend. If so, I will  happily slog through the sloppy slush of the streets. Bliss!

Thank you, my good friends, for sharing your thoughts and cheering me up today. I'll still be inside on sick day duty for most of the day, but I'll be in the house with sunlight streaming through the windows. Finally!

You know it's coming...my wish for you today is SUNSHINE!

Here's a cheerful number from an obscure little band you may not have heard of. They came to America 47 years ago this week, and have been making their way in the music world ever since. Enjoy!

  1. At last!! DC, too, is supposed to warm up over the weekend. Thank God!

Who doesn't love the Sun, hey? He's everyone's brother. Here's an invocation we used to do in Reclaiming. It's intended to be shouted out, like a cheer:

    Who is the sun god
With the gold and shiny bod?
    Ra! Ra! Ra Ra Ra!!

  7. jo it takes me up and out moving from the grey black and white which was leaving me mildly mournful in my own world and then you wrote the clearest truth which is that you can look right at brother sun and not get hurt when he's lost up behind the sloppiness of february sun!!! into the realities of sunshine and the bliss it really represents. oh thankyou!!! steven

  8. You are so very welcome, Steven.

I stared at the sight for quite some time before getting the camera. I really can't recall ever experiencing that for more than a few seconds as clouds pass over the sun. It seemed quite special.

I thought, though, that it was very bold of that same shy brother sun to slice through the grey chiffon and climb right into my neighbor's front room!

Thank you so much for the very kind words, Steven.
